Sharing God’s love. Caring for all. Daring to act.
Caring for the Needy
For almost its entire history, one thing that has distinguished St. Paul UMC from other churches is its very robust Outreach Ministry, providing care for the needy.
St. Paul Outreach Ministry boldly and proactively reaches out in accordance with Matthew 25:40 to provide assistance and opportunities to people in need and to build bridges through relationships. The Ministry also works to increase understanding of social issues and to communicate the linkage of these issues with faithful discipleship.
Despite having to work with COVID-19 restrictions, St. Paul still offers a wide variety of outreach opportunities ranging from serving dinner to the homeless to participating with the Community Council on Ministries as advocates for the homeless, working poor, and those in need. Other activities, such as a week-long mission trip, are suspended during the pandemic period
Feeding the Homeless
St. Paul has a tradition of providing aid and hospitality to the homeless and poor. 52 weeks a year, St. Paul provides a hot meal and relationship on Thursday nights from 7:30-9:00pm for clients of the Prince William County Winter Shelter/Drop-In Center and others who have no place to call home through our Lord’s Table. During the pandemic period, this meal is being served at the Ferlazzo Building, 15941 Donald Curtis Drive. St. Paul actively participates in meal support at the Hilda Barg Homeless Shelter, and along with the Community Council on Ministries, supports the Drop-In Center on a year round basis.
We are currently serving clients in the east parking lot. Please bring identification and proof of address, and wear a protective mask.
St. Paul offers The Lord’s Pantry, a food pantry which is open on the 1st Saturday each month 8am – 10:30am and on the 3rd Thursdays from 3pm-5:30pm in the church building. This program provides pre-selected groceries to families that live in the 22191, 22192 and 22193 zip codes, USDA food is also available based on household income.
