Music

The great lyricist Fred Pratt Green has so beautifully partnered his text “When in Our Music God is Glorified” with a hymn tune from Charles Villiers Stanford. Pick up a UM Hymnal and look at the words of Hymn #68. Some of the phrases are “When in our Music God is Glorified”………..”Let every instrument be tuned for Praise, Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise”……….and each verse triumphantly concludes with ALLELUIA! The praise of God’s people can be expressed in many ways---but music can be used by everyone to praise our Lord and Savior. Here at St. Paul UM Church there is opportunity for everyone to share their talents in the praise of our Lord. Below are listed a few of the opportunities available. Why not glorify God through your talents and share the wonderful gift of music!

Chancel Choir

our varsity team of Adults who meet for rehearsals on Thursdays at 7:30PM. A variety of music is prepared and presented in worship (usually at the 11:00AM services). First rehearsal of the fall    Thursday Sept. 2nd

Youth Music Time

young people in grades 6 through 12—meet on Sundays at 5:00PM---right before UMYF. A variety of music is learned and presented in worship ---contemporary, Christian Rock, classical---much of the music uses instruments that several of our young people may play---flute, guitar, violin, etc. First gathering of the fall season is Sunday, Sept. 19th.

Hallelujah Sisters

post high school young women who love to sing and present differing styles of music. The rehearsal schedule is set by those participating in this group---usually no more than 2 rehearsals a month. First gathering will be Sept. 15th 7:00PM.

Chapel Bells

our advanced group of Adult Bell Ringers. If you have rung bells before, and/or read music this group will be for you. At this time we have 3 open ringing positions. Practices are Tuesday evenings beginning at 7:30PM. First rehearsal is September 7th.

Sign Choir

for youth or adults who would like to learn sign language to be presented with contemporary Christian Music. Rehearsals 1/2 hour long and are held on Tuesdays from 7pm—7:30pm contact Amy Phillips or Rachel Gustavson.

Children’s Music Time

The Children of St. Paul UMC meet for Music time each Sunday at 9:45 in the Choir room. We hope to be able to add an additional time during the week where children can learn some additional instruments and music activities. Watch for additional info!

Daytime Bell Choir

There is interest in a daytime bell group---this would be a learning group---no prior experience needed nor do you have to be able to read music. There will be a sign up sheet posted in the extended narthex and the date and time of rehearsal will be determined by those who indicate an interest. Rehearsal time would be 45 minutes in length.

Vocal or Instrumental solos, duets, small ensembles

People who may also be interested in providing solos---vocal or instrumental or playing in small ensembles are encouraged to contact Cynthia Elmore, Director of Music Ministries.

I was recently at a music convention where one of the choral selections was titled “You Shall Have a Song”---and we all do---we all can praise the Lord with a song!
